An open letter to Dhoni

Dear Dhoni,

First thing first, like thousands of other crazy Indians ,I'm also a great fan and admirer of you and everything that defines The Mahendra Singh Dhoni. And perhaps that made me write my first blog post on you for reasons no longer a secret to anyone.

All of us know what cricket is to we Indians and better lets not delve in to that. You, my friend might be thinking yourself as a cricketer and your popularity is all about cricket. That's a part-truth. It's more about your calmness, leadership trait, a peculiar decision - making style and so many other aspects especially around cricket that makes the phenomenon called Dhoni. And that explains your ever-propelling popularity even among cricket-unfollowers.

In India we consider all politicians as thugs, corrupted. Perhaps that is why it's sportsmen like you who still instills faith and honesty in society and brings relieving cheers to millions of people otherwise surrounded by their own troubles.

BUT,(note the case) apropos the press conference on Tuesday that followed the spot fixing mired IPL tournament, it was outrageous to see an otherwise outspoken, candid and thoughtful Dhoni on a mute mode with a pretentious innocence. Now what on earth does that silence mean to we, the believers of the religion called cricket ? Aren't we already bored almost tortured to death by the constitutionally approved silence of Dr. MMS that you came up with this deafening silence on an occasion when people have been looking forward to the vedic statements from the chief preacher of the cricket religion ?

It's time like this that has given birth to the great Dhoni by rising to the occasion. (Remember your decision of coming ahead of in-form Yuvi on World Cup Final). But you let down a million hopes by succumbing to the so-called gag by BCCI or whatever. Ain't you seriously bothered about this on-going spot fixing imbroglio at all and especially when your world cup colleague and your CSK principal are in jail? Since when Dhoni has lost his spine? Are you the same person who hovers those helicopter shots sending shivers through the opponents? Now what's that has changed and made you take your coolness to an all time low huh ?
 
You're perhaps the most earning sportsman this country has ever produced and rightly so. What would have happened had you expressed your opinions (at least diplomatically)about this whole fiasco ? You would have lost the captaincy or something? But trust me you would have gained much more than that. If you have decided to be like this, better step down mate, else even The Sachin Tendulkar is criticized like heck in this country so you know your place. If our captain is aggressive on the field, we want to see half of the aggressiveness off it and rest will fall in to place.Silence though at times very useful indeed at this time will only pave the way for more speculations, blind guesses and people may start believing that your conscience has been bought along with the IPL auction.This is one press conference you will regret for sure in days to come.If this isn't the time to rise above and express your opinions then when is ? 

I for one would like to believe in your abilities and exceptional skills of putting things into perspective before it's too late. And I am not alone.
